Her hair might be pink at the moment, but the inspiration for YouTube it girl Maddi Bragg’s downstairs dwelling was quite literally very black and white.   Sending me some of her favorite interior pics from Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr, the gorgeous white washed images of tussled bedrooms and cozy couches were punctuated with bold blacks, beautiful blushes and at least 51 shades of grey.

And better yet, she liked ’em a little interesting or dare I say unusual, signaling to me perfect alignment with her strong sense of personal style and her honest confidence.

Immediately after lusting over the images she sent myself, I jumped online and began framing the vision in my minds eye with all things black and white with a little splash of everything in between.

Excited by Maddi’s strong gravitational pull towards Scandinavian inspired interiors and her dream space clearly defined, I was elated to flex my creative muscles and give the Nordic genre an enthusiastic go.

Characterized by bold graphic art, chunky sweater weather like textiles and both manicured and boho animal skins alike, Scandinavian interiors are often muted but never boring, frequently simple yet always impactful and full of clever purpose.  But with a quick search on Pinterest you’ll also find them increasingly moody, with subtle dark and sexy undertones despite all the bright and washed out whites.

Needless to say I can certainly understand the popularity of this style with screen-shot-2016-11-19-at-9-45-59-pmMaddi and her loyal legion of fellow millenniums for exactly these qualities.  And I must admit, it’s a smart choice if you’re decorating your first pad.  The earthy tones and blacks and whites are kind of hard color palette to screw up if you stay true to them, making Scandinavian style a pretty good place to test your talents on.

Added bonus, you don’t even need to make your bed!  Just pile on the down, add some luxe linen bedding, throw on a fuzzy or chunky topper then sleep and repeat!

And so where did all this inspiration lead us?  Straight to some Nordic interior bliss!
