It’s Friday again and since I did pretty much everything but sleep and change diapers at Nicasa this week I’m going to give you a sneak peek at my 5 favorite revamps in the showroom. We will be ready for Market on Monday, the official “open” date for the showroom and I’ll have a full reveal next week complete with a before and after virtual tour. But for now, here are the 5 transformations that make me happiest!
The quest for a couch
I’m not entirely sure how it happened, but this little beauty just made its’ way into my life — and in 8-10 weeks, it will make its’ way into my living room! Oh happy me! Now, I’m hoping the 8-10 weeks is more of a worst case scenario as the one week we have now spent without a couch was about as enjoyable as a foot massage at the dentist’s office. Every morning for the last week or so I wake up to scores of emails from Pinterest telling me one of my pins has been “re-pinned.” At first I would flutter with excitement and check with one eye open at all hours. Now, I don’t even bother opening them email. I know what pin is making you guys oh so very happy. It’s this one, and I get it. I loved it too, that’s why I pinned it in the first place! Heads Are Gonna Roll…
…if this wall isn’t a huge success! It has been my happy and my hell for a solid two days now and I still have at least 3 more ahead of me (no pun intended!) before this space is complete. I swear, you don’t realize just how big 1700 sq feet is until you have to cover every single inch of it in 3 weeks! But we have made huge progress, huge. DIY Wallpaper Reveal!
Ok! I did it! And I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the results, this was much easier than I anticipated, but only after I abandoned the laser level and ditched the Sharpie. Yup, no Sharpie and no laser level. So let me explain. As far as the Sharpie goes, I just couldn’t get into the feel of it. It was awkward to write with, especially with letters so large and it just wasn’t bold enough. And just this week the perfect idea popped into my head. I was flipping through Happy Handmade Home by the super talented and oh so clever sisters behind A Beautiful Mess and it hit me. My Authentic Life

Waiting Game – Bringing Nicasa to life one DIY at a time!
This is always the hardest part of any project, waiting for all your goodies to arrive, the excitement of opening all the boxes combined with the slight anxiety of evaluating your purchases — I love it. All of it. Even the anxiety, because that’s where I’m forced to get creative, even if only in my minds eye and everything ends up better than expected in the end. But if I have any doubts, the waiting game allows me to get my own game plan going, think of solutions to marrying styles, textiles, colors, you name it. …I made these pretty little guys! Remember these heads from my Home Goods score? Well, here they are all dressed up and ready for Nicasa! All I used: faux flowers, yarn, my trusty scissors, a needle and thread and in once case, some metallic paint and therefore a paintbrush. Other than that, no rules, no instructions, no real how-to adorn your faux head with flowers or how-to add flowers to antlers. Just start creating what makes you happy. Seriously, it’s that easy. I didn’t even stick myself with the needle (this time)! And all while you were sleeping. 🙂

When trying to decide what my first DIY du jour project would be, the decision was a happy no brainier. Ever since I stumbled on a post a few months back (while sitting at my desk at work, clearly distracted) on how to turn your photos to canvas I haven’t stopped doing it. I didn’t see the text that came in at 7:11 this morning from my friend Kim because I was asleep. Not that that is unusual for many but for me, a mother of 3 toddlers, it is.
